Truth. Justice. Minesweeper.

When I started writing this thing, I did it for several reasons:

1. I wanted to write something long, and finish it.
2. I wanted to get into the habit of writing regularly.
3. I thought it would be fun to write something in blog form.
4. For reasons that most of you would probably find pretty strange, I believed that I was running out of time in which I could tell this particular story effectively, and wanted to get on with it.

I never had the idea that I was just going to keep writing it indefinitely. I was going to tell the story until it was over, and then stop. Which is what I've done.

As far as what happens next in the story... I have some ideas about the future of the superheroes of Empire City, but they aren't interesting enough to post here. No idea what Dennis and Ingrid get up to, and if they were real people, they'd prefer it that way, so that's fine. I won't say I'm never going to write about any of these people again, but I would have to have an idea for them that I really wanted to write about, and I am not seeking out such ideas specifically.

If anyone is still jonesing for superhero-related blogs, I linked to a few on the sidebar. And there are other good ones out there - the Faceless Henchwoman, the Flash, others.

For that matter, one of the things I'm going to be doing more of, now that Sliced Bread 2 is done, is updating my other website, here. All my future superhero-related thoughts will certainly show up there.

In addition, I owe some writing to these people and these people and these people. So that'll be fun.

The real reason why I'm posting here is to thank everyone reading this. All of you who did me the great honour of reading something I wrote, who left comments, who told their friends to check it out, who linked to me... I really appreciate it. I had fun, and I hope everyone else did too.

(And if this is the first time you've ever seen this website, feel free to use the date-links in the sidebar to navigate through the story and see what I'm talking about.)

Thanks again,

Matthew
Comments:
Thanks for writing this... it's been a great ride, and gotten me way way into comics...

Awesome job and best of luck to you....

Thanks very much. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah, cheers. All good things must come to an end etc...also you linked to the hilarious Kid Lightning, so for that I salute you!

I found your blog this past summer and have looked forward to going through the archive when I had the time to. I just finished reading the last entry, and I've enjoyed every moment. Thank you for this excellent story! Best wishes to you. :)

I'm only into October 2004 so far, but I have to say that this is very clever and well-written. I'd be interested to hear if you're getting anything published sometime; I'd be sure to purchase a copy.

The only thing you could improve would be to go into the blog template for the archives and restore whatever setting provides Previous and Next buttons, so that one doesn't always go into the Archive sidebar to navigate.

Thanks.

Publishing is unlikely to happen anytime soon, but if it does happen I certainly won't keep it a secret.

I never saw a setting for Previous and Next buttons. If I had, I would have used it first thing. And I looked for it.

Matthew -

This was one of the best things I've ever read (and I read, a lot). Honestly.

I know because as I neared the end, I had that faint sense of impending doom, like I get when the pages on the right side of any good book get thin. I know its going to end, and I know that it has to end, and still I really don't want it to ever end. I guess its kind of how I feel about most things - a good meal, relationships, life.

Thanks for writing this. I think Dennis and I will be friends for a very long time. Maybe I'll even run into him at a Pie's game.

I have only one request / question. I know I've read this a good deal later than it was actually written, but I re-found it via a link that I posted to it in my own blog a few years ago. I had liked the idea when I first stumbled upon it, but hadn't made the time to read the whole thing then. Now that I have, I'm really trying to figure out how it is that I found you in the first place, and my Marcy-ish deja-vu is telling me that I found a little note with the link to your blog in the Toronto office of my company, when I was there for a week of trainig. Its near the airport.

Am I right?

Thanks again, and keep up the good work.

If anyone wants an easier way to read or reread this story, I put a table of contents, fully linked, here.

Excellent story and a good solid finish (which is so much harder than it looks!) Good luck with everything and hope to read more of your work some day. - Lia
