Truth. Justice. Minesweeper.

Big splash in the paper today. Claudia Calhoun, Girl Reporter, has not been resting on her laurels. She's got an interview with Empire City's newest and hottest superhero, Icecap. I've only skimmed the article so far (I'm going to read it in more depth later) but the impression I get from the interview and the pictures is that Icecap is a punk kid with more superpowers than brains and who has no idea what he's getting himself into. And, no, she didn't reveal his secret identity.

I showed it to Greyghost as he came in. He gave it a quick glance and said, "We all had to start somewhere."

"I don't pretend to be an expert," I said, "but I'm not optimistic about this kid."

"No. Have you heard of Omicron?"

I hadn't.

"His example is instructive. In any case, Icecap has power and seems willing, and there is a need for him."

Omicron, huh. Must look that up.

"Keep the article. We may need it someday for a dossier if Icecap"--he paused--"loses perspective."

Right. I filed it. I also filed a story from deeper in the paper, one that suggests Calhoun may have missed the boat on the real hot new hero. Apparently, a Central-America-bound freighter full of captive children was stopped, boarded and liberated by a glowing half-outline of a man who came out of the water of the harbor, did his thing, and dove overboard once the authorities were about to arrive. Doesn't sound like any of the other superheroes in the area.
